Continue another few hundred yards and you will come to the Manhattan Bridge - the less famous cousin to the Brooklyn Bridge. Alas, the famous picture postcard view is no longer available courtesy of the 9/11 slimeballs, but it is still an awesome shot, the loss of the towers notwithstanding. Pretty impressive.Īlso spectacular views and if you walk north along the river under the Brooklyn Bridge for several hundred yards, you will come to a large park that will let you take the famous shot of the Brooklyn Bridge spanning the river with the skyline behind it. Early morning light - very early - gets you the sunrise on the skyline. If you are fortunate, the color of the sky can be intense and the view magnificent, especially in the fall. This shot works particularly well at night and in very late afternoon when the sun sets behind the skyscrapers. This view is from the east looking west across the East River. Truly amazing that one would even think about using a tripod on a boat.)įor a different view of the skyline, cross the Brooklyn Bridge and shoot from the pier at the end of Fulton Street directly under the bridge. (I have seen folks using a tripod from the deck of the Ferry - or from the Statue of Liberty boat trip. Of course that does leave out the idea of panos.but the view is fabulous and you get the bonus of passing right in front of the Statue of Liberty for some great angles. As long as it is daylight, you can shoot handheld from the ship for some spectacular views.

If NJ is not convenient, then take the Staten Island Ferry (a free ride - the best bargain in NYC). If you shoot from there, be sure to shoot late afternoon when the sun will be behind you and the skyline will be bathed in late, warm sun. John is right - that shot is taken from NJ which is west of NYC.
